News Release 30th March 2010WHITTINGTON BARRACKS, LICHFIELDMichael Fabricant who has campaigned hard to ensure that Whittington Barracks near Lichfield was not sold off for other uses was praised yesterday in Questions to the Secretary of State for Defence when Michael asked about progress in converting it for use by the Defence Medical Training Agency. Hansard reports: Michael Fabricant (Lichfield) (Con): Defence Ministers have rightly praised the work of doctors and nurses at Selly Oak. Ministers will know that the Defence Medical and Education Training Agency is about to move to Whittington barracks near Lichfield. Will the Minister please make a statement as to the progress on that installation? Mr. Kevan Jones (Defence Minister): I thank the hon. Gentleman for his support for Defence Medical Services and the move to his constituency. Plans are ongoing. The budget as regards accommodation is in place for this year, and the plans should come to fruition at the end of this year to ensure that we have not only support for our injured servicemen and women but world-class defence medical services. |
