RELEASE OF WEST MIDLANDS TOWNS FOR ANTI-VIRAL COLLECTION POINTS
Michael Fabricant has criticised some Prime Health Care Trusts for being
over secretive regarding the locations of Anti-Viral Collection Points,
places where Tamiflu can be obtained for those suffering from the swine
flu virus, and is releasing some of the information to the public.
Michael says: "I back Robert Jenrick", the Conservative prospective
Parliamentary candidate in Newcastle under Lyme, "for his criticism of
the North Staffordshire PCT for being over secretive". A North
Staffordshire PCT spokesman has said: "All we can say is that there are
10 locations in North Staffordshire where Tamiflu is being issued.
People will be told where they need to go once they have been prescribed
it. For example, if someone says they live in Newcastle, they will be
directed to the nearest pharmacist to them in Newcastle". Meanwhile,
the Stoke on Trent PCT has released to the public all the locations of
Tamiflu centres.
Michael says: "This policy is inconsistent. I have therefore
unilaterally decided to release some of the information to the public
today. A list of addresses was sent to me on the 24th July by Andy
Burnham, Secretary of State for Health. He named all of the ACPs known
to him at the time for the West Midlands. He specifically asked that
the exact locations be kept secret. I am not sure why. Does he expect
a mob to break into these centres and ransack all the available supplies
of Tamiflu? I think not.
"However, I shall honour his request not to release the exact locations.
But I do think it right that the general areas where ACPs are being
established in the West Midlands should be known to the public.
"Last week when I discovered that neither Lichfield nor Burntwood were
on the list, I demanded that they be added. Lichfield now has an ACP.
As far as I know, there is still no Tamiflu location in Burntwood. The
public has a right to know where these localities are. It is possible,
just as with Lichfield, that more locations have since been added.
Where they have not, the public have a right to ask that they be added."
