ALREWAS STATION WINS SUPPORT FROM MOD

Michael Fabricant's campaign to re-open the line from Lichfield to Burton and open a station at Alrewas has won backing from the Ministry of Defence.

In a letter to Michael Fabricant, Derek Twigg, Minister for the Armed Forces, writes: "I was particularly interested to note your request to the Department of Transport requesting the reintroduction of a passenger service on the line between Lichfield and Burton to ease the burden of traffic flow to the Arboretum which I understand is receiving record numbers of visitors since the dedication of the Armed Forces Memorial.

"I hope that this proves to be successful and offer you my fullest support."

Michael Fabricant says: "I am delighted with this offer of support from the Ministry of Defence which will be useful in my negotiations with the Department of Transport. But I know that Government funds are tight so it will still be an uphill struggle. Nevertheless, I will keep up the pressure both on Whitehall and the County authorities in Stafford."
