STAFFORDSHIRE STILL NEAR BOTTOM IN GOVERNMENT SCHOOL FUNDING
"When in 1997 Labour MPs and candidates said a Labour Government would equalise school funding between different county local education authorities, it had huge resonance amongst Staffordshire and other parents" says Michael Fabricant. "But 10 years later, the promise remains broken and Staffordshire languishes 18th from the bottom in the amount schools will receive from the Government per pupil according to figures just released by Whitehall.
"Why should a school in Manchester receive over 12% more per pupil than in Staffordshire? In a school of a 1000 pupils, it means that the headteacher will have a budget in Staffordshire £493,000 less in the year than his Manchester counterpart. That is desperately unfair to pupils, teachers, and parents. The differences are even greater when compared with London boroughs."
