In advance of the vote tonight on Lords Reform, Michael Fabricant says: "I will vote for an elected House. Of all the options available, I will vote against an all appointed House of Lords - the Prime Minister's preferred option, 20%, 40% 50% and 60% elected. I shall be voting for 80% elected and 100% elected. I will not be dissatisfied if 80% elected is eventually chosen by a majority though my first choice is an all elected House. The 80% elected gives greater legitimacy to the House of Commons and will allow those with specialist knowledge such as doctors, scientists and other academics as well as the established Church to have representation. If 100% elected is chosen, we must find a mechanism to ensure primacy of the House of Commons. A radical way round would be to recognise traditional counties and elect 5 members per county regardless of size."
