News Release
1st February 2007STAFFORDSHIRE SCHOOL FUNDING NEAR BOTTOM"Staffordshire schools have lost out again compared with other local education authorities with the funding they will receive from the Government for 2007-08" says Michael Fabricant. "Figures I have just obtained from the Department of Education reveal that out of 149 local education authorities in England, Staffordshire's funding ranks 132nd - just 17th from the very bottom. "When Staffordshire Labour MPs were campaigning for election back in 1997, they promised that a Labour Government would fund Staffordshire school students the same as anywhere else within a year of coming to office. Ten years later, a school in the City of London will receive £7,090 per pupil, a school in Surrey will receive £3,800 per pupil, yet our schools in Staffordshire will only receive £3,597 per pupil. So for a typical school of 800 pupils, a school in Surrey will £162,400 more than a similar school in Staffordshire while a school in the City of London will receive a staggering £2,794,400 more. Can this be fair?" Michael asks.
