News Release

9th July 2006

VISITING CHASEWATER RAILWAY

Michael Fabricant visited the Chasewater Railway today (Sunday 9th July) and toured the new Heritage Centre, Locomotive Shed and Museum, and the Engine Shed before taking a ride on the footplate of 'Asbestos' which was built in 1906.

Michael says "Too few people know of the Chasewater Railway which operates steam and diesel trains on standard gauge track around the recently restored Chasewater Country Park. The train runs through some beautiful countryside including areas designated as sites of special scientific interest by virtue of the wildlife to be found there. A great idea is to take the steam train from Brownhills West station where you can leave your car then on to Chasetown Church Street station where you can ramble back across the country park.

"Thanks to money from the Highways Agency when the M6 Toll was being built, wonderful facilities have been built and the new stations and restaurant facilities are well worth a visit."
