News Release

4th July 2006

4th July: INDEPENDENCE DAY

Michael Fabricant has recently returned from Washington after taking a contingent of 18 people from Lichfield and other parts of the West Midlands on a goodwill visit to the USA. The visited was paid for privately by each participant - no public funding was involved.

The group visited The White House, the United States Congress, and the British Embassy where they were briefed privately by the British Ambassador Sir David Manning.

Michael Fabricant says "The visit followed on from a highly successful visit a couple of years back to Litchfield in Connecticut. This time, we visited the United States' capital as well as towns and cities in Maryland and Virginia. Everyone made us feel very welcome and the briefing from the British Ambassador, followed by a question and answer session, gave us a valuable insight into current British-American diplomatic and trade relations. We were delighted to fly the flag for Britain and for the City of Lichfield."
