MAJOR DEBATE ON LICHFIELD'S PLANNING POLICY

The Speaker of the House of Commons has granted Michael Fabricant a Parliamentary Debate on "The Effect of Planning Policy on Market Towns, Historic Towns, and Cathedral Cities". It will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 1st March.

Michael says: "I have long been concerned that district councils like Lichfield are being forced by Government policy to cram housing into every available green space - including back gardens.

"It is ludicrous to compare historic cities like Lichfield and small towns like Burntwood with huge urban areas such as Birmingham. Yet the Government insists on a one size fits all policy. This debate which I have initiated will be open to MPs from all parties and will be answered by a minister from John Prescott's department." (The Office of Deputy Prime Minister). "I shall be expecting answers from the minister. I do not want to see the character of Lichfield ruined over the coming years nor it becoming a mere suburb or Birmingham as, sadly, Sutton Coldfield has now become."
