News Release 30th July 2005THE PARLIAMENTARY TEAMFifty of Michael Fabricant's general election campaign team travelled by coach from Staffordshire to the House of Commons to celebrate the result at the general election in the Lichfield constituency when his majority increased to over 7,000. It had been just 238 in 1997. While on the Terrace of the Commons they met Michael's team who work for him as a Member of Parliament which gave them a useful insight into how the office works. Mrs Jean Simpson. She heads up the office in Lichfield and, among many other things, supervises Michael's surgeries. Joanne (Jo) Godwin. Joanne is Michael's Parliamentary Assistant at the House of Commons. A former Metropolitan Police officer, Jo is an experienced Commons staffer who 'keeps Michael in order!'. She handles telephone calls from constituents (phone calls to Lichfield are diverted down to Westminster), organises Michael's busy diary, and deals with the large daily post bag. Michael. Mrs Christine Bowden. Christine reminded Michael that he first recruited her as a secretary 25 years ago to work with his broadcast engineering company. How time flies........ Christine Bowden is Michael's correspondence secretary writing letters not only to constituents, but also to Government ministers and agencies on the behalf of constituents. Michael Fabricant says "It is this strong team that enables me to provide a consistent and prompt service to constituents. And it operates even during Parliamentary recess. So during the summer when Parliament isn't sitting, constituents needing to contact me should still write to me at the House of Commons in London. Writing to me in Lichfield can sometimes delay the response. Alternatively, I can be emailed through the webform located on my website - which is easily found by entering my name in Google or in a similar search engine. The advantage of being called 'Michael Fabricant' as opposed to 'Smith'." |
