ILL EX-MINERS RIPPED OFF BY SCAM

Michael Fabricant is warning the families of ex-miners that they are being cheated if companies obtain compensation money for them and are charging fees which are then taken out of the compensation they receive. "This scam is similar to the legal 'no win - no fee' services offered by lawyers who prosecute employers and other bodies for injuries incurred by their clients", says Michael Fabricant. "But this time, the money is compensation from the Government to ex-miners and not a penny should be deducted from the money due to miners."

Michael has joined forces with Mick Westwood of the Cannock Chase Retired Miners' Pensions and Health Claims Association to highlight this scam. "Companies and so called consultants are exploiting and ripping off elderly and vulnerable ex miners, many suffering from debilitating lung diseases" says Michael. "This is happening in Staffordshire and in other parts of the west midlands. If local miners need to make a claim, they should contact the Association or their local Citizens Advice Bureau and not use organisations which will charge a fee by deducting substantial sums from their eventual award".
