News Release

7th February 2005

EXTRA POLICE FOR LICHFIELD AND BURNTWOOD

Michael Fabricant says: "The next Conservative Government will increase police numbers by 5,000 each year until they are comparable to those in New York. This will mean an extra 40,000 police on the beat across England & Wales. In addition, Conservative will cut red-tape and paperwork to get police officers out on to the streets.

"The extra police will be funded by savings to Home Office bureaucracy, and subsequently through savings achieved by scrapping the existing asylum system and replacing it with a rational quota-based system for refugees.

"Conservatives will give resources to each police force to fund the extra police. While the exact allocation of police officers within each police force area will be an operational matter, this would result in 670 police officers in the Staffordshire Police service resulting in 53 extra officers in the Lichfield-Burntwood area.

"This would make one hell of a difference!" Michael adds.
