SCHOOLS' SPEAKING COMPETITION: ID CARDS

7pm, 25th February

The subject of this year's Michael Fabricant-Arthur Price of England Schools' Speaking Competition will be: "That this House believes that all British residents shall be issued with identity cards and that this will help in the fight against crime and terrorism."

Michael Fabricant says: "ID Cards are highly controversial. Should we issue them in our free society? Is the principle the maintenance of freedom or the protection of our citizens? Will ID cards work? These and other issues will be debated by the five teams taking part. It will be an interesting evening and everyone is welcome to watch and support the students who will be participating."

The Competition will take place - under strict Parliamentary Procedure - in The Guildhall, Bore Street, Lichfield at 7pm on Friday 25th February. Mister Speaker will be Malcolm Harbour MEP and the judges will be Cllr Mrs Gwyneth Boyle (Mayor of Lichfield), Mr John Rackham MBE (Sheriff of Lichfield), David Ratcliffe (President, Rotary Club, Lichfield St Chad), and Mrs Barbara Dundas.

The schools taking part will be all 5 High Schools in the Lichfield Parliamentary constituency: Nether Stowe School, Chase Terrace Technology College, Chasetown Specialist Sports College, King Edward VI School, and The Friary School.
