News Release

29th April 2004

MADE IN BRITAIN?

Following the closure of Royal Doulton in Staffordshire, Michael Fabricant has asked 20 Government ministers and the Prime Minister parliamentary questions: "What proportion, expressed as a percentage, of the (a) crockery, (b) cutlery, and (c) glassware procured by his department over the last 5 years is of British manufacture?" He should receive replies within the next week or so.

"With a major cutlery brand based in Lichfield and glassware and pottery manufacturers in Staffordshire, I believe the Government should play its part in buying British", says Michael Fabricant.

"I also hope that all our embassies overseas sport crockery and glassware from Staffordshire, cutlery from Lichfield - though I will forgive them if it is from Sheffield - and toilets manufactured in Armitage in my Lichfield constituency".
