News Release

10th March 2004

KINGS BROMLEY POST OFFICE

Michael Fabricant is calling on residents of Kings Bromley in Staffordshire to contact Royal Mail if they don't want the Post Office in Kings Bromley permanently closed. The Post Office in Alrewas Road, Kings Bromley closed some months ago on a "temporary" basis. But Royal Mail now say that if circumstances and needs in the village have not changed, they will deem the closure as permanent. And that could make the re-opening of any post office in the village more difficult in the future.

"I have already contacted the Parish Council about this, but I want local residents to contact Royal Mail setting out their need for a post office in Kings Bromley. The Royal Mail have said they are interested to know whether there is a new shop, garage, or pub which might offer post office services or whether through lack of any new shops, garages or pubs there remains a real need for the post office to be re-opened. The more people who write stating the need for the post office, the better" says Michael Fabricant. "And if anyone is prepared to run the post office, the should also write in straight away!"

Letters need to be sent to:
Nick Collings
Rural Transfer Advisor
National Consultation Team
The Post Office Limited
PO Box 2060

Michael added "I know of some villages where local people volunteer and set up a rota running the local post office and I wonder whether this is something people in Kings Bromley might wish to consider."
