MOST ACTIVE PARLIAMENTARY QUESTIONER - AGAIN

Michael Fabricant was the most active Parliamentary questioner out of all West Midlands MPs for the last Parliamentary session according to figures only just released by the House of Commons.

Michael asked 49 questions of which 2 were to the Prime Minister. "I like to keep ministers on their toes" says Michael Fabricant "and often it is only by asking questions in the Chamber of the House of Commons that answers can be got to crucial questions affecting the constituency. In addition, I enjoy probing the Government on my Culture Media & Sport Select Committee as well as from the front bench. Indeed, there are times when I dart from the front bench to the back-benches to ask a specific question for which I have not been given an official Opposition responsibility!

"But my questions are not often hostile. Frequently there can be a consensus in the Chamber and I would rather genuinely seek information than try and catch ministers out" Michael adds. "Today, for example, Elfyn Llwyd who is a Plaid Cymru MP asked about rescue dogs which cannot be returned to Britain after they have worked in disaster zones like Iran following the earthquake there. There is a fear that the dogs might have exposed to rabies so they have to be put in quarantine for a long period. I asked whether the Government would consider regularly vaccinating rescue dogs against rabies and the minister will now investigate this possibility fully. So questions can be quite constructive on occasion!"
