News Release 14th January 2004IS TAXPAYERS' MONEY BEING WASTED IN STAFFORDSHIRE?Michael Fabricant, and other Conservative MPs and spokesmen, is calling for public sector workers across Staffordshire to send in their examples of waste and bureaucracy across local public services. Launching a new campaign to highlight how taxpayers' money is being wasted, Michael says: "I invite public sector workers across Staffordshire to send me their own examples of how taxpayers' money is not being well spent. We need our public services run by the best qualified people - such as the nurses, the doctors and the teachers, in contrast to being controlled by the armies of inspectorates, commissions and czars that have become the problem rather than the solution. "This is not just a question of money but also of morale. Constant micro-management and interference by bureaucrats creates a climate of frustration and disillusionment among our public servants. But armed with their professional insights and experience, we can apply our energies to rooting out waste, bureaucracy and incompetent administration in Staffordshire's public services. Many teacher friends of mine have told me, for example, of constant form filling now required by Government." Local responses to the consultation should be sent to: Michael Fabricant at The House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA. Or they can be emailed by logging onto www.michael.fabricant.mp.co.uk/contact.ihtml Michael Fabricant adds: We will be collecting examples of public sector waste as part of the campaign, and I will be forwarding all contributions to a new national panel set up to audit Government waste and inefficiency. The panel is chaired by top business troubleshooter, David James. Major accountancy firms such as KPMG, PWC and Ernst and Young have also agreed to second experts to support the panel." The panel's website, outlining the plans to tackle waste, can be found at: http://www.thejamesreport.co.uk and was launched on 14 January. |
