News Release

28th August 2003

COMMUTERS CLUB

Michael Fabricant is hoping to form a club for the many commuters who travel each day or weekly by train or car from Lichfield and the surrounding area to London if enough show an interest in joining. It would meet in London 2 or 3 times a year at the House of Commons - maybe for a dinner - and provide an opportunity to meet representatives from the rail companies and other organisations, as well as being an enjoyable get-together for Lichfield's growing band of commuters.

"I have been struck by the number of people who regularly commute to London from Lichfield. We all share common concerns about the state of the West Coast Main Line, train timetables, the condition of our Lichfield railway stations, and other similar matters", says Michael Fabricant.

"My plan would be for these regular commuters to London to meet up with me two or three times a year at the House of Commons either for a drink or, perhaps, dinner to discuss these matters and to provide a social link for Lichfield and Burntwood commuters while they are in London. Local commuters include bankers, accountants, a builder, and an I.T. specialist who works for the BBC developing their website. A real mix of people. One of our first meetings might be with someone senior from Virgin Trains.

"If anyone is interested in joining up, would they please write to me at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA or email me with their name, address, phone number and brief details of how often and how they commute down to London" Michael adds. Michael can be emailed by using the contact page
