News Release

8th May 2003

90% AIM FOR BROADBAND COVERAGE

Following Michael Fabricant's broadband successes in Burntwood and elsewhere, he contacted Sir Christopher Bland, Chairman of BT - yet again - and a trigger level for interested customers has now been set for Alrewas and Fradley. If just 250 people register an interest in signing up for broadband in that area, the telephone exchange at Alrewas will be enabled for Broadband. At least 120 have registered already. Michael Fabricant is now joining with Fradley resident, James Hargrave, to promote a 'Broadband for Alrewas and Fradley Campaign' to encourage another 130 residents to register. To help them do so, the Campaign has produced its own website. Local residents and businesses can log on and register their interest and their details will then be transferred to BT. The website can be found at:- http://www.broadband4alrewas.org.uk

Michael Fabricant says "My aim is for at least 90% of my Lichfield Parliamentary constituency to have access to computer broadband services. Consequently, I am delighted that local people have taken this unique initiative by launching their own website. This sort of self-help is to be encouraged and I wish James Hargrave every success with the Campaign. People should know that by registering an interest in broadband, they are not contracted in any way to use it so registering costs absolutely nothing. In addition to the website, the Broadband for Alrewas and Fradley Campaign will also be putting up posters in the two villages and I hope that they will soon meet their 250 target."
