News Release

19th August 2002

A CHARITABLE WEEK

Following his completion of the Three Peaks Challenge (reaching the summits of Snowdon, Skafell Pike, and Ben Nevis - the three highest peaks in Wales, England, and Scotland all in 34 hours over the weekend of 10-11 August), Michael Fabricant yesterday (Sunday 18th August) crossed the Sands of Morecambe Bay - at low tide - on a Charity Walk for CancerCare.

"The weather was atrocious at the top of Snowdon with high winds and rains, but I met some others from Lichfield also taking part in the Challenge. It was raining and misty on top of Ben Nevis and the weather across Morecambe Bay this weekend was fairly bleak too. But I was heartened to see so many others taking part in a walk to raise money for charity", says Michael Fabricant. "I guess I missed all the good weather in Lichfield as I spent the interval between completing the Three Peaks Challenge and the Morecambe Bay walk on a 5 day walking holiday with pals in the Outer Hebrides and on the north coast of Scotland. It rained most days, the midgies had a feeding frenzy on my body, and it was pretty cold, but friends in Lichfield kindly kept texting my cell phone with encouraging messages about how hot and pleasant it was down there."
