FABRICANT TO CHAIR INFORMATION SELECT COMMITTEE

Michael Fabricant, who was appointed some weeks ago to serve on the Culture Media & Sport Select Committee under the chairmanship of the Rt Hon Gerald Kaufman MP, has today been appointed Chairman of the Information Select Committee. The Information Select Committee is responsible for the provision of the Library, Computer, and Research Facilities of the House of Commons. Officers reporting to the Committee include the Serjeant at Arms(the most senior official of the House of Commons), the Chief Librarian, and the Head of the Parliamentary Communications Directorate. (Michael will remain a member of the Culture Media & Sport Select Committee).

"Every Member of Parliament uses these facilities" says Michael Fabricant. "This Committee is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of these services for the benefit of the constituents of MPs and is crucial to the well running of Parliament. It is a great honour to take the Chair of this Committee".

Like all Select Committees, its membership is appointed by the House of Commons, it has the power to summons witnesses, and to prepare detailed reports which are published by the House.
