MOST WANTED! :- VOLUNTEER GARDENERS

Michael Fabricant today presented awards to five of the gardeners who undertake volunteer work for the elderly and infirm in and around Lichfield. Some of the gardeners have been offering their services for 10 years. Meanwhile, Cllr John Mercer (Chairman of Lichfield District Council) handed over the keys for a brand new minibus to be used by the Garden Task Force organised by the Council's Community Training Centre. "But more gardeners are ugently needed", says Michael Fabricant.

"Any able bodied people - retired or long-term unemployed for whatever reason - who are willing to commit one or two days regularly each week doing volunteer gardening work for those who are unable to do it for themselves, should join this excellent initiative by the District Council. The Garden Task Force tidies up gardens for the elderly, infirm and others when no-one else is available or willing to do this work.

"The District Council provides the training, transport and the equipment; the volunteers provide the skill, enthusiasm, and the muscle. It is part of the community spirit for which Lichfield is so famous. I hope that potential volunteers will come forward and contact Stewart Beattie at the Garden Task Force on Lichfield 01543 308131 for further details."
